Introduction Transition joints
Transition fittings PE/steel
Technical description
It is possible to use transition joints for connection of steel pipes with pipes of PE SDR 11 and SDR 17,6 of PE 80 and PE 100 of coincident mate. Those are used for fuel gases (natural gas, coal - gas, biogas) to the overpressure 400 kPa (low pressure, medium pressure).
Transition curves PE-steel, for distribution of heating gases are put to the compressive examination with overpressure 800 kPa. It is possible to mount the transition curve just for connection of steel piping with PE piping. It is necessary to have on mind, to protect against damage especially of LPE part at assembly.
It is important to protect at underground laying of gas pipeline against mechanical stress of pipeline including straining at stroking and at twisting. We can avoid mechanical straining by prevention of conduit tension by suitable conduit storage (adequate sub-base). It isn't acceptable to place shoring of gas pipeline under a transition curve.
At welding a transition curve on a steel pipe it is neccessary to protect it against heat deformation of PE part of the transition curve. That it is possible to achieve by the way of cooling of the steel part (sheathing with wet textile).
You must not manipulate with the transition curve if the metal part isn't cool - off. Manipulation and assembly of transition curve is admissible in climatic conditions when temperature atmosphere is not bellow 0°C (TPG 702 01). The steel part of transition curve at joint PE-steel should not get over 80°C at welding.
The steel part of transition curve is painted against corrosion by the producer and this painting is intended to storage and it mustn't be disturbed. It is necessary to carry out upright isolation in accordance with corrosive characteristics of environment after assembly on pipeline.
It is necessary to have on mind that at longer stocking of transition curves, those must not be put on a direct insolation and those must be placed on dry and clean environment in ordinary temperatures. It is possible to stock them for max. 2 years.
